About
Katherine Cowan

Katherine established her thriving consultancy practice in 2007. She is in high demand for work that makes a positive difference to individuals, organisations and their clients.

Her work has ranged from user-led evaluations of services for women with convictions, to the design and facilitation of an international research summit on autism and suicide. She is recognised internationally for her role in the development of the James Lind Alliance model of research priority setting, which she led from 2008 to 2023. A dynamic and highly capable facilitator, she also delivers training to help others grow their own skills and techniques when working with groups. At the heart of Katherine’s work is an interest in enabling people to contribute to public policy debate, to the decision-making processes that affect them and to social change.

Katherine is an acknowledged expert in consensus decision-making, in research and practice. She is equally comfortable collaborating with senior policymakers and civil servants as with patients, carers, researchers and practitioners. Supporting her practice, Katherine completed (with Distinction) a Masters in Coaching and Mentoring Practice in 2013. Her work is underpinned by her training and expertise in, and enjoyment of, weaving people and process, working creatively to time and target.
